Moby Dex is an innovative research project that is developing a multimodal mobility index. This index represents the relationship between mobility supply and demand and uses mobile phone data and floating car data (FCD), among other things. Moby Dex enables the demand-orientated development of sustainable mobility in entire regions. The system is being trialled in the target regions of the Ruhr area and Baden-Württemberg.

Moby Dex is developing a comprehensive data, processing and collaboration platform that systematically analyses supply and demand.
It enables regional public and corporate mobility planners to jointly develop needs-based solutions.
The platform is being used in two pilot regions for location assessments, global analyses and forward-looking mobility concepts.
The core activities include the further development and expansion of the supply analysis, the estimation of demand and the identification of gaps using real-time data from FCD and mobile communications in conjunction with company data. In addition, traditional public transport planning will be integrated with corporate mobility management. Design drafting, validation and project management are also key elements.
The main result is a prototype platform with user-friendly interfaces for analysis and APIs for integration into third-party systems. The platform can be used independently or from specialised applications and portals. Piloting will take place in two regions with involved partners and the project will deliver specific studies and applications.
